Woke up this morning to rain - blah! We had to get an early start so we could get to Dodd Narrows by 10 am which is slack tide. Dodd is the trickiest narrows in the Gulf Islands, you must transit single file and not meet another boat coming in the other direction as there is so much water swirling about. The wake of your boat can cause standing waves that can swamp an oncoming boat.

Necessity of life - the dump station (Nanaimo)
When we got to the narrows, there were two boats ahead of us, a power and a sailboat. It wasn't slack tide yet and the sailboat decided to try to transit (going against the current), he couldn't make it and turned around and came out, I think he scared the poop out of himself as he left completely and didn't come back! We waited a while longer and then Leo got impatient and went through about 15 minutes before slack. We were at full power and you could really feel the power of the water!
Waiting to transit Dodd Narrows
Our trip to Telepgraph Harbour was spent at the lower helm (inside) as it was raining and disgusting. But here we are at our destination. There are 2 marinas here, we are staying at the second one, it is very protected here, and very pretty.
Slipped in Telegraph Harbour, Thetis Island
After a nice hot lunch in the boat and then a snooze (what else to do on a rainy day?) we wandered up to the bistro and had ourselves on of the famous milkshake we had been reading about. Holy Crap! - the best milkshakes ever. I suffered the consequences of my sin but it was worth it!!!
I had Espresso Flake, Leo had French Vanilla

After the milkshakes, we decided to take a little walk in between the rain. We didn't get too far before it started up again, so went back to the boat, had dinner, and read. Later I took Tara for her night pee and managed to get in a half decent walk.
On our short little walk
Cosy inside the boat, raining outside
Before bed, took Tara for her last pee, she had a fun romp with another dog, then we managed to walk a little further. See you tomorrow.
Love your blog Cindy, take care and safe travels to you. Tina
