Day 2 - Aug 1, 2010 Ganges Harbour, Saltspring Island

First off, I have to tell you that last night's dinner at Hastings House was sublime.  We had menus at our place setting with our name on them.  Every night is a special chef's menu along with the seasonal menu.  Leo went with the chef's menu which included a marinated beet salad with goat cheese, leek and potato soup, filet of beef with gruyere cheese potatoes and a fresh fruit crumble.  I had the prawn salad, herb crusted halibut (divine) and blackberry creme brulle.

My appetizer - almost too pretty to eat!

Today the wind kicked up a little again so it was a little rocky but not too bad.  We toodled over to town in the dinghy and enjoyed a really good cappicinno and some good art galleries and shops. We picked up two nice bottles of wine at "The Local" wine shop along with a box of utility wine. It will probably be a while before we see a lot of civilization again so gotta take advantage.

checking my facebook - thank you everyone for the birthday wishes!

There is a family of swans here and we've been enjoying watching them.  today we were feeding them off the boat and didn't notice Tara walk along the swim step to say hello.  She almost got her face pecked off by an angry mama swan!  Oopsie!

Hey Judy - I got your message! We would love to see you guys and hopefuly aroud the 12th or 13th we should be in your area - is your number still the same? We'll call you

Did you know that Saltspring Island was originally settled by African Americans who were seeking refuge from slavery in the United States in the 1800's?  this was, of course, after the aboriginal peoples who were here the very first.
