Day 15 - Clam Bay to Silva Bay, Gabriola Island (again)

August 14, 2010

Leo likes to rise early and I'm so glad he does, because not only does he make the coffee while I sleep, he takes the most amazing photos in the early light.  There was a particularly beautiful sunset this morning.

Morning sun and geese

We set off north towards Silva Bay.  On the way, we cruised past Valdez.  The light had not hit the cliffs yet so Leo decided we should wait until good light for pictures.  We sat here for about an hour.

This is how it looked when we got here

While we were waiting, we watched tiny fish swarming and leaping out of the water.  It was hard to capture but there were schools of hundeds of fish, making beautiful ripples in the water.  This went on for about five minutes or so.

Almost missed seeing this eagle along the cliffs.  Leo got a shot of him just before he flew away.

The light is just reaching the cliffs (bottom)

As the light increased, Leo set the speed at about 3 knots, which I call "floating down the Mississippi speed", and he took the following shots as we went by.

You can see where the birds have been hanging out!

The end of the cliffs

Once we passed the cliffs, Leo picked up speed.  My hat flew off and landed in the drink.  Leo was kind enough to go back for it.  I fished it out with a pole.

Safe!

Once we anchored again at Silva Bay, it was time for a snooze.

After a nice siesta, on to the Hardman's for the Luou!  If you click on the next pic, it's easier to see all the dinghies in front of their dock.

There was a big turnout - around 80 people.

Mmmm - the pig

We got back to the boat just in time to watch the sun go down
