Day 14 - August 13 - Tod Inlet to Clam Bay, Kuper & Thetis Islands

August 13, 2010

This morning Leo took the dinghy to the dock area here to get some shots of the swallows.  I'm not sure the type of swallow this is but they are very special as there has been a succesful program to insure their success in this area - dozens of boxes built for them on the pilings.

More boxes

From Tod Inlet, we headed north and along Stuart Channel.  I did most of the piloting today which included a tricky narrows.

These kayakers were not far from the narrows.

It was a nice, slow paced trip, but the sun was hotter than we realized.  We are making our way north again so we can attend Dick & Colleen's Luou - the 3rd annual  Semiahmoo Pig Roast.

When we got to Clam Bay, we found a good spot to anchor and just chilled (if you could call it that in the incredible heat).  Clam Bay sits between Kuper and Thetis Island with a little strip of water between the islands known as "the Cut", which almost dries at low tide.  It is very foolhardy to try to transit the Cut in anything but a rowboat, kayak, dinghy, etc.  The bay is sourrounded by first nations land and it is a very beatuiful spot.

Aah - now here is what I would rather be doing!  I don't mind letting Leo be Skipper and me settling for First Mate!

This was my ONLY martini of the trip!

Sunset it Clam Bay

We dinghyed up the cut and to the dock at Telegraph Harbour (where we stayed earlier) so Tara could have her pee.  The tide was high high and I think it was problably one of if not the highest of the year.  Even at that height, you could see how shallow it was in the cut.

When we got back, we enjoyed the most beautiful sunset.  Because of the way the bay is situated, we should get a nice sunrise tomorrow as well.
