Day 5 - Pirate's Cove, DeCourcy Island to Sliva Bay, Gabriola Island

August 4, 2010

We started the day with a walk to "Wally's" Beach where Tara had a nice long swim, fetching a big stick we picked up along the trail.  Back to the boat, a quick breakfast and then we set off saying good bye to Pirate's Cove.

Leaving Pirate's Cove

It was a leisurly trip to Silva Bay,Gabriola where we met up with my son Jesse and his good friend Peter, who lives here on Gabriola with his wife and two kids.  We had a really nice lunch with them at the pub before setting off on a little cruise of the area.

Tara was very excited when we got back on the boat with Jesse (who she knows and loves) and Peter (who she didn't know but instantly loved).  We cruised around for a couple of hours before getting back to Silva Bay and dropping the anchor and enjoying a snack of hummus and cheese and crackers.   Peter told some interesting stories about Brother XIII and his infamous cult in this area - I will have to read up on that!  Then we gave the guys a dinghy ride back to the dock and said good bye.

We are anchored in front of our new friends from the Semiahmoo yacht club, who have a beautiful home here at Silva Bay.  They are residents of Washington but spend a lot of time here and always welcome other members to visit.  We will be dropping by this evening to see them.
